老树，本名刘树勇，微信名“老树画画”，是中央财经大学文化与传媒学院艺术设计系主任、教授，也是中国知名文艺评论家、学者、策展人、摄影活动家。老樹著作等身，其学术专著和摄影评论文章在业内影响巨大。他曾策划并组织实施中国第一个国际摄影节“一品国际摄影节”，创办影像文化批评杂志《光线》，並首次提出觀念攝影的概念，在攝影界引发了观念攝影大討論。他還发起组办了多项大型摄影活动。他不仅以诗画闻名，还涉猎陶艺和版画，并举办了十多次主要个展。

Professor Liu Shu Yong, known as Lao Shu inChina,is the head of the Department of Art Design, Faculty of Culture and Media, Central Universityof Finance & Economics, in Beijing.   InChinahe is not only a famous andwell-admired photographer and painter, he is also a prolific writer and aninfluential scholar.  He has hadsignificant influence on the fields of literature, art criticism, anddocumentary photography. He was theorganiser of the first Chinese Photography Festival inChina, thefounder of the Lightbeam - a visualculture magazine, and is the initiator and driving force behind many highprofile photographic events. He also works with printmaking and pottery and hasachieved a lot. In addition, he has found the time to mount 12 major exhibitionsof his own paintings. 

近年来，老树在世界上最大的社交媒体微博和微信平台上持续贴出的水墨小画和谐趣小诗。这些作品被网友疯传和热爱，对社会产生巨大影响。老树也成为闻名华夏海内外的知名网络红人和最为中国网民喜爱的艺术家。

In recent years, Lao Shu has published many of his ink paintingsonline, together with simple yet elegant and witty poems. These artworks haveloved by the fans and spread widely on the world’s largest social mediaplatform - Wechat, reaching over 889 million users.  As a result, Lao Shu now has millions offollowers.

新荷乍露嫩绿，后园初发幽篁。枝上青梅尚小，鱼儿游在池塘。

2016年老树获得“中国年度新锐榜”的年度艺术家大奖。新锐榜以为这一年的中国立榜，为一个时代测量体温而成为中国的传媒榜、观念榜和文化榜。新锐榜送给老树的颁奖词是：“他的画中有山河故人，让人以梦为马，找到心中的桃花源；有日常和牢骚，让人会心。他不是学院派，也不在意自己的画被归为新文人画还是段子画，他抛掉技法和规矩的局限，反而获得了自由表达的喜悦和平静。”同年老树的公共账号荣获“年度文化头条”。

In 2016 Lao Shu was awarded ‘the Artist of the Year’ by the New Weeklywhich was endorsed by 200 major media outlets. This praise is one of several awards given annually to individuals whorepresent the pulse and frontier of contemporary Chinese culture and ways of thinking.New Weekly’s award notes state: “In his paintings, there are landscapes andtraditional characters, which enable us to dream and find our ownparadise.  Lao Shu’ characters show usthe full range of their emotions from agony to ecstasy, and these resonate withour own feelings.He is no follower ofacademicism; he doesn't care whether his works belong to the new literatimovement or are considered to be sarcastic art. He is not constrained by painting techniques or rules, and thereforefinds joy and peace in the freedom of expressing himself.” In the same year,Lao Shu’s Wechat page won the Top Cultural Publisher of the year.

而老树在“一席”上的讲演更被微信网友公认为2016年最值得听的讲演。

Laoshu was invited to give a TED talk in 2016. Chinese Internet usershave regarded by his talk as “the worth listening to” speech of the year.  Lao Shu is also known as a man of broad anddeep self consciousness.
